First Hole
Par 4
|
365 Yards
The opening hole at Ticonderoga Golf Course is a 365 yard (back tees) dog leg right par 4. The tee shot plays downhill to a left to right sloping fairway. Tee shots should play to the left center of the fairway to allow for a clear shot to the green. Tee shots to the right will often put the player behind the large hardwood tree in the right rough.
A large gully bisects the fairway, with the lowest point about 60 yards from the green. The player may choose to play the tee shot short of the gully, resulting in a level approach shot, or choose to drive the tee shot into the gully, allowing for a shorter, but uphill approach.
The green slopes slightly from front to back. High shots with plenty of spin will be rewarded and may avoid running off the back. In firmer conditions, players may be forced to land shots just before the green and allow the ball to roll on.
In 2019, four new tee boxes were constructed to the players right of the original tee. The new tees increase the angle of the dog leg and lengthen the hole by about 30 yards (back tee).
